In the garden:

Not recommended in the garden, since it is poisonous, although Las Pilitas sells several varieties.

In the wild:

Inhabits dry places in brush or woods below 4000', chaparral, cismontane, throughout California, north to Oregon, east to Nevada and Arizona.  Its blooming period is February to June.  There are several sub species, and it crosses readily with S. parishii.
